The other night my daughter respectfully reminded me of an upcoming Big “0” birthday that I will be celebrating later this year.
There is something about Big “0” birthdays that make them different from other birthdays. They seem to trigger thoughts about what we have accomplished in our lives and what is still to come.
It seems that, as the Big “0” birthdays come and go we begin thinking more and more about what we have left undone, what we have not yet become. At the Big 10, 20 and 30 milestones we tend to still be focused on what we are aiming to become – careers, families, homes.
The potential regrets in our lives start stacking up around mid-life. As we remain busy doing other things, we increasingly regret that we haven’t become the artist, the entrepreneur, the traveller, the writer, the photographer, the whatever it is that still haunts our dreams both day and night. We silently fear that we will never become the ‘me’ I have always wanted to be!!
As this recent decade of my life whizzes by to its conclusion, I have decided to set aside some time to step back and take stock. What I have accomplished so far I am eternally grateful for – two beautiful children, some amazing friends, a life of travel and education and adventure. The ups, the downs, and the sideways all have special meaning in my life – they have made me who I am today. Like it or not this is who I am, right here, right now, and I am grateful but….there is a restlessness. Questions that won’t go away – that need to be answered.
1) Who do I want to be for the rest of my life?
2) What do I want to do for the rest of my life?
3) What do I want to accomplish with the rest of my life?
4) Where do I start?
Do any of these questions feel familiar to you?
They have been hiding in the back of my mind for the past couple of months so this past weekend I pulled out my personal core values list, sharpened a couple of dozen pencils, and cracked open a fresh notebook.
This weekend I created my Good Life Bucket List – 52 things that I plan on accomplishing this coming year that honour my personal core values, help me answer those 4 big questions, and help me build my best good life from the inside out! One accomplishment per week based on pleasure, adventure, creativity, autonomy, resilience, clarity, and luxury have shaped my Good Life Bucket List!
What would you put on your Good Life Bucket List? How would you incorporate your personal core values into your life?

I have something similar which is a Mission Statement. These are some out of the 25 “values” that I have.
– I know I can accomplish absolutely anything my crazy mind can come up with; in fact, I already did
– I have only one life and I will live each day to my fullest
– I will seek and embrace conquering a different fear every day
– I will be bold and I will resist opposition, danger, hardship and humiliationI will not be bothered by other’s opinions because I’m a big man who does not feel threatened by any danger
– I will not fear mistakes; rather I will fear the absence of a creative, constructive and corrective response to a mistake
